When I first thought about getting Pete a gift for our wedding I had a watch in mind; a designer watch with something engraved on it like ‘meet me at the alter’ or ‘ don’t be late’. Unfortunately I didn’t start to save up in time and when it came to buying something my budget was slightly less than anticipated and a watch wasn’t an option anymore.
I then took inspiration from a friend of ours who bought her groom a preparation box, filled with goodies to help him keep his cool before the day. They say for women a luxury gift is the norm and for the men something novelty, so I thought the preparation box would be a great idea!
Pete’s difficult to buy for, he knows what he wants and isn’t a man who will wear a top to keep the peace, he has to like something to wear/use/eat it. He does love sentimental gifts and thoughtful gestures so even though my box wasn’t expensive or luxury, I knew it would mean a lot to him.
Each item had a small note attached to it to explain it’s place in the box. Pete called me to tell me he loved me as soon as he’d opened it and loved the gesture.
‘a drink to calm your nerves … but just one’ – Gin, one of his favourites, especially Hendricks. I later added a small bottle of tonic to complete his tipple.
‘to make those pouty lips even more kissable’ – Palmers lip balm to make that first kiss perfect.
‘to freshen your breath for that first kiss’ – Tictacs, for minty freshness.
‘to mop your brow and dry your tears’ – Tissues incase he got emotional.
‘incase the Tactics aren’t enough’ – Mouthwash just incase.
‘to tame that mane’ – Hairspray to keep his hair at bay.
‘to keep your cool as you know I love to sniff your pits’ – Deodorant because yep, I like to sniff his pits. Not really, but I know it winds him up!
‘a spare incase you poop yourself’ – I then added a 2-pack of Ralph Lauren boxers as I know he likes those ones and if you’re going to need spare pants, it’s probably going to e on one of the most nerve-wrecking days of your life!
Did/would you get your groom a gift before the big day?
