If you saw my Fall Bucket list blog post then you’ll know that Pumpkin picking was something I couldn’t wait to do with my boys this Autumn. There’s something so magical about a field scattered with pumpkins, giving it that orange haze that blends so perfectly with the fall shaded leaves and dusky sky.
Luckily for me Pete and the boys love fruit and vegetable picking as much as I do so I didn’t have to force them into helping me tick off the first from my list! We decided to head to Pickwells, our local ‘pick your own’ farm which hosts a wonderful variety of in-season produce. I checked before going that the Pumpkins were ready and although there were an abundance of them they were still quite small so we didn’t actually take any home, we simply made the most of the fresh air, stunning views and photo opportunities. We’ll be heading back in a week or so to do the real picking and then you can expect a whole load of pumpkin related arts, crafts and baking blog posts!
Fruit and veg picking is such a fab all year round activity for kids; the boys just loved running around the farm, following the tractor tracks and spotting what was growing. They also had a blast running through the corn maze … not so fun for me trying to catch up with the pushchair – I’ll definitely take a carrier next time!
I loved the fact that they were getting lots of fresh air, having good clean fun and learning at the same time! It’s also great to know you’re supporting local businesses and having confidence in what you’re feeding your family … it’s really satisfying!
Well that’s pumpkin picking and walking through an corn maze off the bucket list;even though we’ll definitely be doing those at least once more this season!
Will you be going pumpkin picking this Fall? What do you do with yours, simply carve them or any fancy decorating or baking? I’d love some ideas!
Thanks for reading,
Jess x
