Jaspy’s Venture Photograph

A while back I wrote about our experience at Venture Photography. We’d bought a £20 voucher to get us a photoshoot and one small framed picture. I won’t go into the photoshoot now, you can check out how it went here; but I just wanted to tell you guys about the image viewing afterwards and show you the gorgeous snap I chose!

I was booked in to come and see the final pictures ages ago but due to moving and other commitments I had to push it back a couple of times. When we finally found a time to go I was really excited yet a tad apprehensive. The costs are absolutely ridiculous and I knew I would only be able to take the free one home with me and not buy any more. I also knew and secretly hoped that I wouldn’t love them; but of course … they were amazing!

They were highly edited but in such a beautiful way! Not to the extent that they looked fake but in that perfect lighting kind of way. The guy showed me into a comfortable room where I could sit back with a cuppa and watch the presentation of gorgeous snaps of Jaspy flashing up on a flat screen TV. It was all to Orson ‘Bright Idea’ which happens to be one of my favourite songs … how did they know!?

It was such a hard decision to choose one and in the end I just thought “F*** it’ and agreed to buy a package. To give you an idea,  even the cheapest one had a payment plan option!

We went through all the details and I could feel myself tensing up. We’re talking thousands of pounds and even though it would have been £50 ish per month; it seemed so excessive. But I loved the pictures; could I really just leave them?

Luckily the guys attitude rubbed me up the wrong way enough for me to back out. After a round of comments like ‘ I can’t see how you think it’s expensive’, ‘I guess if you think that amount is too much then okay’ and ‘ I wouldn’t include the £100 interest in the price as it’s just interest’; I had to say no.

His attitude of course then totally changed; I still had to choose my free image but I guess being of no benefit to the company that wasn’t worth their while. He sat back looking at his phone for the remainder of the session leaving me feeling rather uncomfortable and to be honest, a little bit cheap. I felt like I was being stingy but it really was too much money, for us at that time anyway.

I had to keep asking him to flick back through the pictures to make decisions and it all seemed so much effort… for both of us!

In the end I chose this gorgeous picture; this is a picture of the picture so you can’t see it’s true beauty but it really is stunning! His eyes glisten so much and the light ounces off his cheek really softly.venture

I can’t knock Venture for their skills; the photographer was great and the pictures truly amazing. If we come into a bit of money then I won’t hesitate to buy them in the future as I do really want them; but the decision of those photo’s or something we could really do with wasn’t really an option.

Have you had any experiences with big photography companies like Venture?

Thanks for reading!

I know exactly what you mean. When I was about 5 or 6 months pregnant I had a free VIP Photoshoot makeover, if I had bought the makeover it would have been about £300 but one of my friends recommended me for a free session. I wrote a post about it. I loved nearly every single picture especially those embracing my bump and the ones where I didn’t even look preggers. Like you, I could only choose 1 free print. The cheapest package was like £500 and could no way afford that. I regret not buying them though because being pregnant was such a special time in my life. I must say though that they didn’t put any pressure on us to buy, most of the pictures were gorgeous. I’d love to take Joey to a shoot though, he’s so photogenic though that I’d want every picture.

I saw your post on that, the pictures looked stunning! It is crazy how expensive they are but like you said I don’t want to regret not going back for them

Gorgeous photo, but what shocking things that man said! We went for this kind of photo shoot with a company called Bumpkins. The shoot was fab but the packages are ridiculously priced! We just had to buy another though as it was our first family photo shoot xx

I think if it was a family shoot we’d have been more swayed but as it was just Jaspy and a couple with me and my mum in, we couldn’t really justify it. The prices are crazy, I understand a lot goes into it on their end but still!

I’ve had a couple of shoots with them and only ever get a few small pics. I intent on getting the £20 every year for a small one and build up a collection. I sometimes find the rude too and impatient x

Ooh that’s a fab idea, I hadn’t thought of just going back each time they have a promo! That’s definitely how I’m going to build up a collection now; plus they’ll be for Jaspy at all ages. Thanks for the tip lovely!

Hi Jess I have previously bought really big pictures from venture. I have always used them for family photos and would recommend then BUT went there a few months ago. We maybe had the same voucher!
I had exactly the same experience! I was so angry when we left.
As I was reading your post I felt like I was reliving our experience.
We were moving and have the wedding and christmas was comin up. I tried to see if we could negotiate or if they would hold the pictures but to hold the pictures they wanted to charge a silly amount. It was felt like emotional blackmail.
I am glad to hear you were not pushed into buying an expensive package. In the future I won’t use the venture companies of the family photography world but independent photographers. Like what we are using for our wedding photography. It’s a lovely pic of jasper BTW

Was it the guy that took you through the pictures? He almost made me feel like I wasn’t rich enough to be there … which to be honest I wasn’t haha but still! Did you end up just going for the small print that was included in the deal? I do want to go back and get more as they were so beautiful but I almost don’t want to go with that guy; the lady there was lovely so maybe I’d see if I could meet with her instead!

Love to you and yours xx
