As you may or may not know me and Pete are set to tie the knot in July 2015. It’s been so exciting looking into venues and spending hours scrolling through Pinterest at the most beautiful dresses I’ll probably never afford and at all of the cute DIY ideas to make the day even more special.
As an avid list maker and organiser I was quite shocked when one of my friends asked me when my honeymoon would be and my answer was ‘honeymoon – bugger I hadn’t even thought of that yet!’
How crazy is that? I guess with all the excitement of Jasper and the fact that we have a few holidays planned anyway, I’d just completely let it slip my mind that what follows from a wedding is usually a honeymoon!
So last night me and Pete sat down and had a real good chat about it. We soon realised that there are loads of factors to take into account. apart from the obvious, where would we like to go?
*Will we take the kids? If so – we need somewhere child friendly
*If not – how long can we realistically leave them with our parents for?
*Do we want adventure or relaxation?
*Somewhere neither of us have been before?
I THINK we’ve narrowed it down to … no kids, one week, somewhere we haven’t been before and a mixture of relaxation and adventure.
What’s great about me and Pete is that we both love a good spa day and a massage but at the same time we’re rather partial to a trip out on the jet ski and a scuba dive. (Oh I wasn’t talking jump out of a plane adventure – that was our 3rd date activity!)
Here are some of the places we’ve narrowed it down to:
Venice – I’ve always pictured myself lounging back on a gondola and being taken around town by a man in a stripy vest singing ‘Bela notcha’ from Lady and the Tramp – haha how idealistic right!?
This would be a fab city break and not too far to travel either which is a winner as I tend to get restless legs when I’m on a plane for too long!
America – My best friend Sammie lives in California and is getting married the month after us. We discussed tying that in with a bit of a road trip along the west coast. She lives in Huntington Beach where I’ve been a few times but I thought we could then visit San Francisco, San Diego, LA and Vegas – places neither of us have been to!
This would be a great mix of adventure and relaxation ( I’m thinking a spa day in each destination!?) but would definitely require longer than a week so we’re not too sure on that idea just yet. We’ll definitely go for the wedding but maybe make our honeymoon something separate.
Bahamas – Now this is probably my number one. We spent 5 days in the Maldives when Pete proposed to me and that was my idea of heaven. Water bungalow, private beach, falling asleep to the sound of the waves – it really was perfect and I can imagine us recreating that in the Bahamas!
Hawaii – I’ve always always always wanted to go to Hawaii. The thought of arriving at the hotel to have a lei draped around my neck; hula dancing in the evening and being serenaded by a ukulele player while having a moonlit dinner on the beach – eek it makes me so excited to think about!
Now these are just our first thoughts, there are loads of other places to consider and I’m sure we’ll change our minds a million times before we book up!
I’m loving adding all my ideas to my Pinterest board – there are just too many place to choose from!
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
