I honestly didn’t think I’d be writing this post, all felt a little hopeless a few weeks back when Jaspys eczema was at it’s worst; but oh my goodness his skin is now looking and feeling amazing!!
It got to a point where we had tried so many different ointments, lotions and creams that I had kind of just accepted that Jaspy was going to be one of those babies with poorly skin. I knew that we could soothe it but I had come to a realisation that we’d never actually be able to prevent it.
While we were on holiday it got really bad again, I think it was a combination of the heat, chlorine, sun cream and using the hotels bedding which of course wasn’t washed using the same stuff that I use at home. It made me really cautious of doing anything with him and he probably spent a lot more time in the shade rather than out in the pool purely because I wanted to try and protect his skin. It also put me off another holiday in the sun with him for a while which is a real shame!
Well as soon as we got home and back to normality, as if by magic his skin cleared up! We went back to what we’d been using before, Aveeno moisturiser, Surcare detergent and fabric softener and then hydrocortisone on the really sore patches. It’s what we’d been using before with no luck but for some reason it now works great! The Aveeno moisturiser is the cream version whereas before it was the lotion so maybe that’s it? It may just be that his skin has healed itself, or maybe the sun made it worse but better at the same time? Who knows; all I know is that his skin is so so soft and smooth. He doesn’t itch, he’s happy and he’s content.
Aveeno is pure and natural so I’m more than happy to make apply that to him a few times a day even if it’s not the reason why his skin has gotten better. You can buy it from the shops or have it prescribed which I’ll keep doing as over time it’ll save some pennies!
Surcare isn’t the nicest product to use on your clothes as it has no scent so his clothes never smell fresh even though they are clean, but I’d rather that then his skin be as it was!
If you haven’t tried Aveeno yet then I’d recommend it and even though I hate the thought of Jaspy using hydrocortisone long-term as it’s a steroid based cream,it definitely works on those small stubborn patches. If his skin were to flare up a few times a year, I would be happy to apply it twice a day for a week or so just to get it back to normal!
