Cottage Chic Inspiration

I love mine and Pete’s little cottage. It’s small but has so much character and is in a really fab location less that a 2 minute walk from Hamble river.

I say it’s small, it has 3 double beds and is spread over 3 floors so it’s not really small, it’s more cosy, I think that’s a better way to describe it. I will do a tour style post at some point but Rhys’s room isn’t complete yet and I want it all to be done before I share it.

Being a rented place we haven’t wanted to do too much to it. It’s actually been done up really nicely anyway so there’s not much that we would want to do, but sometimes it’s nice to know that you’ve got the freedom to decorate and change as much as you want isn’t it?

Instead, I’ve been filling our home with lots of lovely little accessories to give it the cottage chic look that I love. I’ve tried to bring in as much cottage style as I can without making it too girly – I think it’s really important to have a balance and keep it from being too floral and pretty for Pete.

Here is my upcycled mirror. It’s been in my family for quite a few years and actually started off a gold colour. I wanted something a bit more neutral and in keeping with the cottage chic theme decided to give it a single coat of ivory paint. I did it very lightly with a hard brush so as to leave a distressed look.

Teamed with the jingle bells hanging heart I think it looks really cute!

We’re lucky enough to have a working fireplace, but also ungrateful enough to have only used it once! With little Rhys running around we decided it would be much safer to just not use it, especially as his little hands get everywhere and we wouldn’t want a soot covered baby running around the house!

I mixed in some twinkly fairy lights from Ikea among the logs and popped on another hanging heart. I think this ones from Tesco and I love the big ribbon bow.

Now I’ve got a bit of a thing with cushions – much to Pete’s distaste! I’ve got them in pretty much every room, the kitchen, lounge, bedrooms and even a comfy little bath cushion in the bathroom!

Here’s a little collection of some of the cushions on the seating under our stairs …

I love this Torba linen heart cushion from as it’s pretty yet with the colourings not too girly for Pete!

I’m a big lover of flowers and I really believe that flowers brighten a home. I don’t think I’ve had a day in the cottage that there hasn’t been at least one bunch of fresh flowers present.

Pete’s really good at buying me a new bouquet just before the current ones wilt. These ones are actually from my mum and I think look so bright and vibrant in this turquoise and gold vase from The Range.

They also contain baby breath which are my favourite at the moment and something I’ll hopefully be featuring a lot in my wedding!

Here’s a little watering can hanging that my friend Marti bought me around the time her little boy Marley was born. I think its so cute and really fits in with my cottage theme 🙂

Lastly, yes that’s right, another hanging heart! I think this one was from Asda or Tesco and again is pretty without being too girly.

Now I am really curious to see what the rest of the cottage looks like! I love cushions too and there are more cushions on our sofas than there is place for people to sit! I am not much of a heart person but the Torba heart cushion is probably something I could live with.

I think with the colourings of it it’s not too girly so the heart is kind of counteracted lol xxx

I’m moving in with my boyfriend soon and he is alarmed by the amount of cushions that I have bought. Love all your little details x
