We’ve got a sleeper!

I have been waiting for this post for the whole of Jaspy’s life … literally! From the first night feed I’d been wondering impatiently when I’d get to say ‘ Jaspy slept through the night’ and let me tell you people … that blessed time has come!

I’d tried it all with Jaspy, dream feeds, bath-bottle-bed routines, Gina Ford; and even when we thought we’d made breakthroughs, the great routines would only last a night and then be back to normal the next day. I say normal, but there’s not really been much regularity in Jaspy’s sleeping. He’d always wake at 3am, except for nights that he wake at 4am instead. Sometimes he’d wake at 10pm and others he’d wait till 12.

I think the longest he ever went without waking in the night for a feed was 8 hours, from 7-3 which although is a great stretch, is not such a lovely time to wake!

4 nights ago (I had to give it a few nights to see if it was really true) I decided that when Jaspy woke in the night I wouldn’t give him his bottle, I’d try his dummy. I had tried this before but he just wasn’t ready.

Well this time he was. He settled straight back off! Oh em gee I was shocked. So shocked that while he slept soundly I was wide awake not knowing quite what to do with myself.

Unfortunately this has all coincided with a nasty cold so he has stirred a few times each night due to his coughing or bunged up nose but without a wimper the dummy’s done the trick!

I know that anything can happen; growth spurts, developmental leaps, teething etc but for now I’m enjoying this night feed free time; now I just need to learn not to wake up myself! 20140904-224202-81722640.jpg
