I’ve been loving listening to audiobooks recently. As a busy work from home mama of two boys, I find it difficult to dedicate time to sitting down and reading actual books. Now don’t get me wrong I love books, I love the feel of the paper, I love cosying up on the sofa or a sun lounger and getting lost between the pages but if I’m honest the only time I’m sitting in one spot, with both hands free to hold a book – I’d rather have my eyes closed in a bath or about to fall asleep. So an audiobook is perfect for me; I have them on my phone which goes everywhere with me meaning I can listen while I’m at the gym, driving, waiting in the car for school pick up, in bed – just about anywhere and anytime. I always make sure that it’s a time I can pay attention, I wouldn’t try and listen while doing homework with my son for example but while cooking for myself or doing an activity that I don’t really need to give any attention to – it’s perfect!

So here are my 5 most recent audiobooks that I’ve listened to and absolutely loved. They’re all based on self development, but what I love is that each one teaches completely different things, the authors all have very different styles and they give a great variety!

If you click on each title you’ll be taken to Amazon where you can either buy the physical book or if like me you prefer to listen then you can do a free trial of Audible (this is not an ad). You’ll get a 30 day free trial with one free book (one of the 5 mentioned here or another if something else takes your fancy) plus access to over 200,000 audiobooks. You can cancel at the end of the 30 days or sign up for £7.99 a month which I did after my free trial as I find audiobooks so beneficial to me!

If you like this kind of post then please do let me know in the comments below and I could make it a regular feature sharing my new favourites regularly!

Get Rich, Lucky Bitch! by Denise Duffield-Thomas

This one had me hooked, all about manifesting money and breaking down money blocks it is such an inspirational listen/read. Denise provides practical guidance into manifesting abundance as well as real life examples from herself, her clients and celebrities. I found it relatable, it changed my outlook on my relationship with money and after only one day of ‘money tracking’ (a technique taught in the book) I found 5p at the gym. It’s a teeny amount I know, but as someone who NEVER finds money laying around, I saw it as a true sign from the universe that my manifesting was working … and if not it gave me a confidence boost and some serious motivation to ‘Get Rich, Lucky Bitch!’.

The Secret by Rhonda Byrne

I actually read the daily teachings version of this book years ago which gave little bits of wisdom every day for one year in an easy to digest way. I then went on to read The Secret, before revisiting it as an audiobook more recently. Rhonda shares the secret to getting everything your heart could desire based on the Law of Attraction. It’s truly mind-blowing to read and if you really take it in, it helps you to unlock your inner powers. There are many more in the series which I’ve added to my download list!

The Anxiety Solutionby Chloe Brotheridge

As someone who experiences anxiety on a daily basis this one has been invaluable for me. Chloe shares practical tips and simple steps for managing anxiety to obtain ‘A Quieter Mind, A Calmer You’. The book guides you through the history of anxiety providing a better understanding of why we experience it; and then offers tons of exercises for managing and reducing your anxiety! Again I bought this book first but later downloaded it as an audiobook as I find it something I like to listen to with eyes closed laying down.

Mindfulness by Prof Mark Williams

This is an 8 week meditation program however if you’re hooked on listening, it’s only about 2.5 hours long so the skills can be unlocked pretty much instantly! It’s based on Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) which has been clinically proven to be as effective as medication is for depression which I just think is fascinating! MBCT is simply a form of mindfulness that you can implement a few minutes into each day to feel the benefits of and the basis is focusing on promoting joy rather than eliminating the negativity.

Crushing It! by Gary Vaynerchuk

Here’s one for the entrepreneurs among us. If you have the ideas, the product and the skills but you’re stuck at how to realise and monetise your potential then Gary Vee has the knowhow. With sections for all social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and even Snapchat and; Gary delves into real life success stories and breaks down the processes with tips and tricks to achieving growth and interaction. His persona is strong and determined so prepare to feel pumped and motivated rather than relaxed like some other authors will make you feel.

I’d love to know if you try any of theses audiobooks and of course if you can recommend any below!

Thanks for reading,

I really like the sound of Get Rich, Lucky B**ch. I’ve really started paying attention to my spending habits over the past few months and could really do with more inspiration.
I like physical books too, but it’s just finding the time to have peace and quiet to read. If I only read on a sun lounger on holiday, I’d only manage a couple of books a

Yes I used to just read on holidays but now with kids it’s so difficult! audiobooks are fab, I listen while I’m at the gym, editing youtube videos, doing bits of admin that I don’t need to focus on and cleaning! Definitely download it, it’s really fab!
