Toddler Room Ideas

As we are now well and truly settled in our new home *sighs with relief* it’s time to start thinking about decorating. The house is in a really good state, new carpets and freshly painted walls so there’s not much to do but we would like to put our own stamp on it. There are only three rooms that I want to change, the living room has floral wallpaper on the chimney breast that I want swapped for something a bit more neutral. The bedroom has quite dark wallpaper on one wall so I want something lighter, and the boys room needs a theme.

As the boys were in a pink room with girly wallpaper in the last house Pete and I agreed we wanted to get their room sorted first in this house. We want them to have a beautiful room that not only excites and intrigues them but gives them a calming environment for down time.

I’ve got a few ideas, I know that I don’t want anything too bright or bold. I’ve never been one for bright blue walls for boys and bright pink for girls. I definitely want some colour, I mean this is their room so as much as I’d like to keep everything white I have to let go of that obsession slightly!

I’d like to go with animals, something they both love and will hopefully love for a long time. The theme will be great for their toddler development and also doesn’t restrict me when it comes to decorating! It’s not going to just be anything animal I can find in the shops, I want to steer clear of the cartoon style animals and go with a more sketched style. Still very simple and light.

The room is a really great blank canvas, it has light grey carpets and magnolia walls. We have the main furniture so it’s really just some soft furnishings needed to bring in the theme. One thing we definitely NEED though is a VELUX blind. The curtains left in the room are like tissue paper and wake Jaspy up at the crack of dawn so for my sanity, some blackout blinds are top of my shopping list!

room1 The animal portraits are from The Animal Print Shop and start at $25 each. They’re so adorable and I can just picture the boys naming them and trying to make their sounds. I’d like to get a few and have a bit of a display of them altogether.

The lamp I found on eBay and comes in different animals but I thought the monkey would be fitting as that’s what we call Rhys!

The animal head I actually blogged about a while ago and is from Bijou Lifestyle. It’s rather pricey *cough*£75*cough* but is so adorable and I’ve had my eye on it for ages!

room 2

The boys already have a teepee but I’m taking this inspiration from Pinterest to give them a little reading corner. The boys love books and I really want them to be able to have quiet time and snuggle up to read.

This rug I found on Pinterest would be a great way to bring in some colour without painting the already magnolia walls. It would also be great for messy boys as it’s much easier to chuck a rug in the washing machine than to get a stain out of the carpet!

Another Pinterest love of mine. These little bed frames are so adorable and pop up all over my instagram feed too! Rhys is ready in his big boy bed but I may wait till jasper is too so they can match!

If you have any toddler room ideas I’d love to see them so please do link below! I want to stick to something light and airy whilst still being fun for the boys.
