A while back I wrote about our experience at Venture Photography. We’d bought a £20 voucher to get us a photoshoot and one small framed picture. I won’t go into the photoshoot now, you can check out how it went here; but I just wanted to tell you guys about the image viewing afterwards and show you the gorgeous snap I chose!
I was booked in to come and see the final pictures ages ago but due to moving and other commitments I had to push it back a couple of times. When we finally found a time to go I was really excited yet a tad apprehensive. The costs are absolutely ridiculous and I knew I would only be able to take the free one home with me and not buy any more. I also knew and secretly hoped that I wouldn’t love them; but of course … they were amazing!
They were highly edited but in such a beautiful way! Not to the extent that they looked fake but in that perfect lighting kind of way. The guy showed me into a comfortable room where I could sit back with a cuppa and watch the presentation of gorgeous snaps of Jaspy flashing up on a flat screen TV. It was all to Orson ‘Bright Idea’ which happens to be one of my favourite songs … how did they know!?
It was such a hard decision to choose one and in the end I just thought “F*** it’ and agreed to buy a package. To give you an idea, even the cheapest one had a payment plan option!
We went through all the details and I could feel myself tensing up. We’re talking thousands of pounds and even though it would have been £50 ish per month; it seemed so excessive. But I loved the pictures; could I really just leave them?
Luckily the guys attitude rubbed me up the wrong way enough for me to back out. After a round of comments like ‘ I can’t see how you think it’s expensive’, ‘I guess if you think that amount is too much then okay’ and ‘ I wouldn’t include the £100 interest in the price as it’s just interest’; I had to say no.
His attitude of course then totally changed; I still had to choose my free image but I guess being of no benefit to the company that wasn’t worth their while. He sat back looking at his phone for the remainder of the session leaving me feeling rather uncomfortable and to be honest, a little bit cheap. I felt like I was being stingy but it really was too much money, for us at that time anyway.
I had to keep asking him to flick back through the pictures to make decisions and it all seemed so much effort… for both of us!
In the end I chose this gorgeous picture; this is a picture of the picture so you can’t see it’s true beauty but it really is stunning! His eyes glisten so much and the light ounces off his cheek really softly.
I can’t knock Venture for their skills; the photographer was great and the pictures truly amazing. If we come into a bit of money then I won’t hesitate to buy them in the future as I do really want them; but the decision of those photo’s or something we could really do with wasn’t really an option.
Have you had any experiences with big photography companies like Venture?
