With less than 4 weeks to go, (yes that’s right I officially have 3 weeks and 5 days until my due date) my most important job at the moment is making sure that me and Rabbit have everything ready for labour day!
Now his bag wasn’t actually the hardest one to pack, I’ll do a ‘Whats in Rabbit’s hospital bag’ post later on; but my one I found a little trickier.
I’ve had really mixed feedback from other mums, some saying they didn’t need half of what they took to hospital and some saying that they needed even more than what the lists say!
I’m still yet to pack my bag completely, and I will do a ‘What’s in my hospital bag’ post once it’s done too, but I just wanted to share with you a really fab idea that I was introduced to. You may have seen the pre-packed hospital bags which are fab, however sometimes you just want to get a few of the essentials that you’ll need and fill the rest of the bag with your own goodies. That’s where the ‘Essential just for mum hamper’ from Lily and Me comes in.
The lovely Julie sent me this hamper to help me feel more prepared for the big day. It retails at £37 and contains lots of essential goodies for hospital. It’s a little overwhelming thinking of everything that you need so I am really grateful to have the majority of my bag ready in one go!
The essentials come in this lovely keep-sake box with a magnetic seal to save all of my first memories with Rabbit in.
The presentation is really lovely and of course with Rabbit being a boy, mine is blue themed, let’s see what’s inside …
It’s full of goodies!!!!!
The contents is mainly toiletries. There is this handy Dove pack with shampoo, body wash and deodorant. I didn’t get a picture of the back but it also contains a toothbrush with a travel cover and some Colgate toothpaste.
Dove is the perfect choice as it’s so natural and gentle and I’m assuming that after birth I’m not going to want anything too perfumed or strong.
It also includes two Simple products, a facial wash gel and a moisturiser. I love the Simple range as it always makes my skin feel refreshed, again something that after having a baby I’m sure I’ll be grateful for!
The Nivea face wipes will be fab if I have makeup on when I go into labour as I’ll want a clean and clear face. They’ll also be great just to keep me cool throughout the labour.
The Vaseline lip therapy is something that A LOT of mums have told me I’ll need. With being sweaty and doing a lot of heavy breathy I’ve been told that my lips will get very dry so It’s a great idea to have some lip balm to keep them from chapping.
These Just 4 Mums products look fab. I’ve been using Bio Oil so far and haven’t wanted to buy anything different until I ran out. I think I’ve got enough left to last me until around my due date so the stretch mark cream will be a lovely treat for once I’ve given birth! It’ll also be nice to compare an oil to a cream, although I haven’t got any stretch marks yet so I’m not sure it’ll be a fair comparison!
I’m definitely planning to breastfeed, as long as I can (I’ve mentioned before that I had a boob job less than a year ago so I may find it difficult). The nipple cream will come in handy as I’ve heard they can become really sore and cracked after a while – ouch!
This bit I love as the jute drawstring bag is eco-friendly and very natural! I’ll definitely reuse it to keep toiletries in after!
It contains 3 disposable pairs of knickers and 8 Lasinoh breast pads. I’m not looking forward to the leaky boobs parts so these will be needed!
There’s also a pack of 10 Natracare maternity pads which are organic, biodegradable and chlorine free.
The last goodies in the hamper are the compact mirror and brush and 6 hairbands. As I don’t know what kind of birth I’ll be having, I may not find it easy to get in and out of bed so having a compact mirror and hairbrush will be really useful. Of course my appearance won’t be anywhere near the top of my list but if we have any visitors or I want to have pictures taken it’ll be nice to know that I don’t look totally bedraggled!
The ‘Essential just for mum hamper’ really is a fab starter kit for any mum to be’s hospital bag. The travel sized products mean that my bag won’t be too bulky, but most importantly will make my trip as convenient and relaxed as possible.
Of course I’ll still to add in some items of clothing for me, which all depends on the type of birth that I have. I’d love a water birth but where Rabbit still hasn’t moved from back to back this may not happen (I should find out today at my midwife appointment).
I think the only other thing that I’ll add in toiletries wise is conditioner as just using shampoo can leave my hair really dry and dull. However I’m sure this won’t be on my mind while in hospital and I may not even have time to wash it full stop so we’ll see about that one!
Check out Lily and Me over at www.lilyandme.co.uk. Julie has created some fab hampers for mum to be, new baby and mum and baby. There are also luxury hampers as well as homemade blankets which are just gorgeous!
It all began when her little lady Lily arrived early and she was left rather unprepared for hospital. Julie found that most starter kits contained products that she didn’t like or need which is why she makes her hampers containing only the essentials that you will really need.
I love brands with a story and Julies desire to help mumas to be get prepared is really touching 🙂
I’m feeling loads more prepared and will post again once I’ve got my bag packed 🙂
