I won’t be the first muma to say my son is one messy toddler. He’s literally like a destructive tornado, tipping over toy boxes and emptying his cupboards at every opportunity. As messy as he is though, and as often as I have to tidy his toys, I rarely think about having to clean them.
Yes I put his plastic toy fruit in the dishwasher when the sticky fingers print become visible, but unless there are obvious stains on his teddies and comforters, I’m ashamed to say, the majority of them have never been cleaned!
I’ve teamed up with Dettol as part of their Care For Your Bear campaign to show you just how important it is to clean your little ones soft toys.
Lab research from Dettol has found that cuddly toys have the highest amount of bacteria in the family laundry basket and that’s if they even make it to the basket at all; as you can see form about, 1 in 5 teddy bears have never been washed even if the child has been unwell. I’m so guilty of this as unless Jasper has been sick in his cot, I don’t bother popping them in the wash. it may be because he doesn’t carry teddies around with him; he doesn’t have a favourite soft toy so his just stay in his cot or toy box but they still get played with and pick up germs.
The facts in the infographic above are scary. I spend so much time worrying he’ll pick up germs from nursery or play centres that I never consider him becoming ill from the hygiene of our home. I like tot think of myself as very clean and I keep our home to a good standard, hoovering, polishing etc but this has certainly made me really up my game and get his teddies in for regular spa’s!
