Boys will be boys

Me and Pete have always said that we want the boys to experience everything and not be afraid. Pete learnt to dive by being chucked into the pool by his brother and (on perhaps a slightly gentler scale) we want the boys to learn in the same way.

I don’t think I baby the boys at all. If they cry I try to tell them they’re ok and see if they can settle before I just jump in and pick them up. If Rhys wants something I encourage him to get it himself instead of just handing it to him. However, I am female and of course I’m less likely to chuck the boys in a pool than Pete is. I know Pete would never let anything happen to them so do trust him to take over when it comes to the rough and tumble activities with the boys while I sit back and clench my fists in panic while trying to look calm lol

My first experience of this was while we were on holiday.  We really wanted to take Jasper in the pool but I thought that the water was too cold. Pete however said it was just fine and despite me trying to put my foot down, took him in; and you know what? Jasper didn’t even flinch. In fact he absolutely loved it! I only went down to my waste but he sat in there and had a really calm expression on his face, he even cracked a smile!IMG_2441

It was then that I realised I didn’t need to worry. Kiddies will hurt themselves, they’ll try things they don’t like … but that’s the key part – they try! If Pete didn’t take over then Jasper still wouldn’t have been in a pool and I think I’d regret that!

I know I’ve got years of panic and worry with these boys. If they’re anything like their father then there will be travelling, skydives, motorbikes – the lot and if I’m completely honest – I can’t wait!

Today is our first full weekend with the boys so we’re taking them to the country park. Pete bought a skateboard the other day and wants to get Rhys on it early. Of course we’ll be getting knee pads, shoulder pads, a helmet and probably a bubble wrap suit; but he had great fun cruising around the lounge with daddy! Here he is:photo 1-111 photo 2-108Excuse the blur – they were going super speedy!

I expected Jasper to cry when he went in the pool but his face never changed. He smiled and was quite happy. A proper little nipper…as my dad would of said x x

Love this and you’re EXACT like me! I want Austin to experience all the rough and tumble nut I’m a little scared about it, whereas I know my husband will be taking him on motorbikes and all sorts at a very young age. I’ll just sit back and cover my eyes!!!

Haha yep, we can just sit back with a glass of wine biting our nails while they take the boys off for rough and tumble!
